ESEC’s 2009-2010 Fourth Annual Environmental Teacher of the Year Award

This $500.00 award is available to educators who promote critical thinking of environmental issues and stimulate environmental awareness in the Central Savannah River Area. ESEC believes that teachers play a large and important role in the lives of their students in addition to their impact in their communities. We open this award to ALL teachers of ALL disciplines. The goals for the award are to recognize and reward teachers who encourage students to become critical thinkers of environmental issues and those who utilize environmental concepts in their instruction. We seek to promote the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) as a center for excellence in environmental education.

 

Judging Criteria

The winning teacher will be selected based on the following criteria:

  1. Positively motivates students and colleagues towards environmental awareness.

  2. Exhibits creative and/or innovative teaching techniques when introducing environmental issues into the curriculum.

  3. Motivates students to become critical thinkers about environmental issues.

  4. Conveys the importance of environmental education in today’s society.

  5. Encourages students and peers to become environmental stewards.

 

 

Award Details

The Environmental Science Education Cooperative (ESEC) is offering a $500.00 award to recognize an outstanding environmentally oriented teacher for the 2009/2010 school year. This award is open to teachers K-12 of all disciplines (public, private, and home-school). The award nomination period will be open from December 21st 2009 to April 1st 2010. The award ceremony will be held at Augusta Canal Interpretive on Thursday April 22, 2010 at 6:00 pm.  The awards ceremony, which will honor all nominated teachers, is opened to all nominators, guests, and ESEC members.

 

 

Nomination Process

Nominations for the 2009-2010 award can be made by teachers wishing to nominate themselves, teachers or administrators who want to nominate one of their peers, or by any of the members of the Environmental Science Education Cooperative group. We prefer the nomination form to be sent through this website but will also accept nominations by mail or email. You are only required to fill out one nomination form. Thoughtful answers should take no more than thirty minutes.

 

Read each choice and choose the appropriate form. 

  • I am the student of the nominated teacher.  This teacher (nominee) has asked me to be a reference for him/her. Fill out Form A.

  • I am the teacher.  I have been nominated by a peer, principal, or ESEC member, or I wish to nominate myself. Fill out Form B.

  • I am the nominator.  I am the teacher's principal, a peer, or an ESEC member, and I wish to nominate a teacher. Fill out Form C.

  • I am the peer or principal of the nominated teacher.  This teacher (nominee) has asked me to be a reference for him/her.→  Fill out Form D.
